Who are we?

Friends of Flegg has recently been set up by past pupils, parents, staff and friends of Flegg High School who meet on a regular basis to arrange fundraising activities.

Chairperson:  Nigel Craske (01493 748494)

Vice Chairperson:  Julie Beales (01493 748547)

Secretary:  June Bowgen (01493 749712)

Nigel, Julie and June are always happy to answer any queries you may have or to take any suggestions you have on fundraising ideas.

Meetings are held on a regular basis in school; if there is anything you would like to bring up which might help Friends of Flegg please contact us.  Our next meeting will be in the Business Centre on 3rd March at 7.30p.m.

Volunteers are always welcome.

What is our aim?

All schools find it difficult to purchase the “extras” that they need out of their normal budget.  The aim of the Friends of Flegg is to raise funds to try and help get these items.

How will we raise funds?

We will be holding many fundraising events in the future.  We aim to hold events not only for the pupils – discos, sponsored events, competitions etc. but also family and community events – quiz nights, book sales, raffles, fetes etc.

Our first challenge.

Our first challenge is possibly the largest one we will be faced with.  Within the new building project of Flegg High School we were lucky enough to have a large room built which would house the Library and Resource Centre.  However, although the room is spacious and will serve its purpose, it would look much better with books, computers etc.  It is our aim to raise somewhere in the region of ten thousand pounds to bring this Centre to a standard that would benefit all pupils.

How are we going to achieve this?

A Grand raffle was held in October 2007 raising £900. In school fundraising by pupils has taken place with amounts raised to be confirmed and a very successful Quiz night was held in January 2008. The Friends have more fundraisers planned but are always open to your suggestions.  Please contact one of the above.

Future Fundraising

On Saturday 15th March we will be holding a Book Sale.  If you have any good quality books, DVDs, videos or games (play station, Xbox, ect.) please deliver these to school as soon as possible or if you would like them collected please contact June or Julie.

We are also hoping to hold a mini fete early in the summer, another quiz night, disco for pupils and possibly a sponsored event.

If you have any scrap metal please contact either Helen (07884 061540) or Sarah (07951 820030) who will be happy to collect it from you and send it for recycling.  This will be an ongoing project and hopefully with the price for scrap metal being high at the moment will gain a good deal of money.

How can you support the Library and Resource Centre

Please come along to any of the fundraising events, bring your family and friends.

Why not consider buying or sponsoring a new book for the library.  Perhaps you would just like to do this as a kind gesture.  Maybe your child will be leaving the school soon and you would like to donate a book to show your appreciation of their time spent at Flegg High School.

For more details of buying or sponsoring a book please contact Nigel, Julie or June.

If you work within a company who would be willing to sponsor anything within the Library and Resource Centre please pass on our details or speak to us and we will willingly contact them.

Why not save your loose change and donate it to us?  It is surprising how quickly it all adds up. Any donations can be left at school in a marked envelope.

Have you got any foreign currency or euros that you do not want?  If so once again please pop them in a marked envelope and leave at school.

The Friends of Flegg would like to take this opportunity of thanking you for your support.

We look forward to furnishing an inspiring Library and Resource Centre, which will benefit all our children.
