The Governing Body

The Governors are a group of individuals from a range of professions and experience, who give their time voluntarily to support the school. There are twenty-one Governors, including seven parent governors, elected by parents, two LA governors appointed by the Local Authority, and three community governors, appointed by the Body to represent local interests. There are also four partnership governors, whose posts are advertised throughout the area served by the school, and three staff governors, elected by the school staff.

The Governing Body welcomes comments on policies from staff, pupils, parents and local community members.  As part of our regular review timetable we will take into account observations or suggestions received.  Please send any comments in writing to the Clerk of the Governors at the school address, or by email to chairofgov@flegg.norfolk.sch.uk.

Our Governing Body also appoints three associate members, chosen for their particular skills or knowledge of the school.

The Governing Body has three key roles:

  • to set strategic direction;
  • to ensure accountability;
  • to monitor and evaluate the school’s performance.

Governors have statutory duties, and act in the role of critical friend to ensure that the best interests of all Flegg pupils are paramount in decision-making.

A close working relationship has developed between governors and the senior management team, which has led to effective decision-making and a culture of innovation and opportunity for staff and pupils. Each governor is linked to a different part of the school; this enables a governor to take a special interest in a particular faculty or area so that the Governing Body is better informed when making policy or strategic decisions.

To fulfil its obligations and duties, the Governing Body delegates some work to committees. The Executive, Finance, Premises and Curriculum committees and the whole Governing Body meet once every half term. There are a further four statutory committees - Disciplinary, Personnel, Admissions and Appeals, which meet when required. Minutes of committee and Governing Body meetings may be obtained from the Clerk to the Governors.  An annual School Profile is produced each year, which is a national document that all schools have to complete.  The current Profile can be accessed at (link) http://schoolsfinder.direct.gov.uk/9265410/school-profile/english/2004/ and hard copies can be requested from the school.
