General School Policies

Flegg High School operates the policies and procedures listed to the right, the full texts of which can be obtained from the school on request.  Complete downloads of the Prospectus (go to “About Flegg” and “School Tour”), the School Profile (see “Parent Zone”) and the Complaints Procedure (see below) are available from this website.  The Home-School Agreement can be found in either the Parent or Pupil Zone.  Summaries of more policies will be published on this page in due course.

The Governing Body welcomes comments on policies from staff, pupils, parents and local community members.  As part of our regular review timetable we will take into account observations or suggestions received.  Please send any comments in writing to the Clerk of the Governors at the school address, or by email to chairofgov@flegg.norfolk.sch.uk.

AIMS AND VALUES

Flegg High School is committed:

  • to regarding all pupils as of equal value and to welcoming them into a stimulating and orderly environment;
  • to enabling young people to acquire the skills, values and attitudes which will enrich their lives and help them to become positive, active citizens;
  • to enabling each pupil to experience a sense of belonging to a House, and to contribute to decision-making processes which continually seek to improve the quality of school life;
  • to enabling each pupil to follow a curriculum which meets individual needs and meets the requirements of the National Curriculum;
  • to ensuring that all adults can contribute as fully as possible to the goals for pupils, and so achieve maximum job satisfaction;
  • to involving parents, governors and local community partners as fully as possible in the educational process;
  • to maintaining a valued position for the school in the community it serves.

Behaviour Policy

Wishing to secure good behaviour by pupils in all areas of school life, the Governing Body and staff of Flegg High School aim to promote – and reward – sound discipline, proper regard for authority and positive relationships based on mutual respect. They seek to encourage fair treatment and a prompt, consistent response to disciplinary issues, and to provide a safe environment free from disruption, violence, bullying and harassment. They try to develop a shared approach with parents and carers, involving them in the implementation of this policy and its procedures.

Complaints Procedure

All schools in Norfolk want their pupils to be healthy, happy and safe, and to achieve.   They recognise that parents, guardians or carers play an important part in making this happen.  Cooperation between parents, staff and governors leads to a shared sense of purpose and a good atmosphere in the school.  This procedure was adopted by the Governing Body on 22nd May 2006 in order to provide a clear and fair process for handling concerns and complaints.

Child Protection Policy

Flegg High School fully recognises its responsibility, outlined in the 2002 Education Act, for providing a safe environment for its pupils, for establishing and implementing the procedures set out by our Area Child Protection Committee, and for supporting pupils perceived to be at risk.

Social Inclusion

This policy is based on the principle that all pupils, without exception or reservation, should have access to an appropriate education which enables them to achieve their full potential. The school does its best to create a culture of learning, setting suitable challenges and responding to varied needs and abilities. For their part, pupils are included as fully as possible in the decision-making structure, and together with their parents are encouraged to participate in a positive working partnership with the school.
