FANTASY FORTUNES

Our Year 10 Business Studies group has just given a real boost to Flegg High’s fast-developing enterprise culture. On Thursday 8th June our “TTFCR” team defeated twenty-six other schools, including favourites Norwich High School for Girls, in the county’s final round of the Fantasy Share League Competition. They will now represent Norfolk in the National Competition at York on the 21st and 22nd of June.

Their victory came at the end of a one-day Stock Market Challenge at the Open Youth venue in Norwich. The teams had to imitate the events of a real trading week, buying and selling shares and the US dollar and trying to generate the highest possible increase on their initial investment. Beginning with £35,000 in cash and using a portfolio of eight companies, they swept the board by realising no less than £280,000 at the end of the week’s trading.

Flegg High was represented by a team of five: Tiffany Suhlver (Finance Director), Trudie Jowett (Senior Portfolio Director), Harrison Moore (News Analyst), Jade Martin (Share Purchasing Manager) and Tamara Jansen (Share Disposal Manager). The team came home with a trophy and £500 for the school, and for themselves some useful vouchers and, of course, the prospect of a visit to York. Congratulations to them, Miss Rees and Mr Dodds.  The 2007 Fantasy Share League will keep our team busy until the end of March – and we are hoping to compete in the county final in June.
