DANCE

The Key Stage 3 Dance programme comprises four distinct units:  Street Jazz, Classical Dance, “West Side Story” and Contemporary Dance (“Mission Impossible”).  Lessons begin with a variety of warm-up games, and end with a review or a test, sometimes with pupils testing each other.  During the main part of each lesson pupils learn and practise a variety of routines, choreograph and rehearse their dances, and give performances.  For example, they study the rudiments of ballet, the “letter box” and “top rock” routines, Tap, Highland Fling and the Can Can, “escape” collage and the “laser maze”, and from “West Side Story” the provocative arm sequence and the dance fight.  Performances are video-recorded for the pupils to watch and for eventual teacher assessment.
