TEXTILES

During Year 8 pupils learn how to weave.  They produce book covers based on Indian or African patterns, and embellished with their own designs and decorative frames.  They study a range of woven textiles and their use in everyday life, and the influence on fashion of different countries.

Year 9 is devoted to the range of skills involved in making a bag.  Pupils design their own bags, choosing images for print transfer, making templates, sewing by machine, inserting linings, making straps and finally assembling all components to complete the bags.

Coursework at Key Stage 3 usually takes the form of research based on analysing or collecting materials.  Level targets are based on teacher assessment, and at the end of each year a pupil assessment sheet is compiled, providing evaluation and a final grade.
