DANCEThe GCSE course begins in Year 10 with the “Romeo and Juliet Project”, incorporating Modern Style, Lyrical Duets and Contemporary Dance. Pupils study choreography methodology and Comparative Professional Work. Frontline Dance is studied, rehearsed and performed. For the summer examination a written paper, solo choreography and programme notes are all assessed against GCSE Dance criteria. For Year 11 pupils, the GCSE syllabus comprises a written paper (20%) and three pieces of coursework, each worth 20% of the total mark. Submission of the candidate’s Extended Programme Notes accounts for the final 10%. The first coursework element, undertaken during the Autumn Term, involves the assessment of a group/duo performance. Second is the individual Set Study performance, which takes place midway through the Spring Term. The final piece, a performance of an individual composition, concludes the term’s work and the Extended Programme Notes relate to it. All coursework is teacher-assessed and subject to external moderation on a specific day in May. Study for the written paper takes place in Theory sessions throughout the year, and the first half of the Summer Term is allocated to revision and practice papers.
