TEXTILES

The Year 10 GCSE syllabus entails the completion of three distinct projects.  During September and October, pupils design and make a decorative cushion with zip, embellishments and care labels.  The winter project requires pupils to produce an individual container with pockets, zip, lining and decorations.  Finally, pupils design, construct and create a summer garment (skirt or top), a project which takes twelve weeks to complete.

Throughout the year, pupils produce step-by-step paperwork (often as a homework assignment) which sometimes takes the form of a product diary.  They research and evaluate existing products and study mass production techniques.  Thorough evaluation of finished work is aided by self-assessment and other pupils’ opinions.

In Year 11, the examination syllabus has already been covered, and pupils are able to concentrate on their GCSE coursework.
