History

The emphasis at this level is much more on modern history than at Key Stage 3.  Lessons are tailored to challenge and support all pupils, but the literacy demands of the subject are quite high, and the examination is not tiered.  There is a paper on historical sources, a paper on historical knowledge and coursework (during year 10) on Jack the Ripper and Jarrow.  The curriculum grid below gives an outline of the separate modules.  Although traditionally a very strong subject at Flegg, History results last year suffered from the change of syllabus.  We have now received ample guidance and support from our advisor and are much more confident in our preparation of candidates.
